Deep Dive into Eutectics: On the Origin of Deep and Elevated Eutectics

There is growing interest in deep eutectic solvents (DES) for both chemical synthesis and materials applications. However, there a general lack of understanding regarding what uniquely defines system as eutectic, more importantly, properties determine unique behavior. In this work, we identify the thermodynamic basis ideal eutectics relative to assumptions solutions. We then articulate new Solvation Shell-Ionic Liquid (SSIL) -Liquid Solvate (SSLS) model solutions which chemical/physical factors that create solution non-ideality afford ability accurately calculate liquiduses, thus eutectics, binary systems. The application these models demonstrated using diverse families including aqueous salt (ZnCl 2 , NaCl, KCl, NH 4 NO 3 ), molecular (sucrose urea), naphthalene with aromatic (toluene, benzene, toluene, biphenyl phenanthrene) non-aromatic (ethanol, butanol, heptane acetone) solvents, choline chloride:urea term DES was first introduced. accurate description non-ideal enthalpic entropic terms affords clear definition prediction elevated
